CSM BASEBALL SPLITS TWO AT EASTERN NEW MEXICO PORTALES, Colo. - The Colorado School of Mines baseball team split two games with Eastern New Mexico in nonconference action Sunday afternoon at Greyhound Field. The two teams did not play Saturday's scheduled doubleheader due to rain. In Sunday's opener, CSM senior Kevin Barrett (Lafayette, Colo./Centaurus) fired a complete game, five-hitter to lead Mines to a 9-0 win. Freshman catcher Mike Deal (Highlands Ranch, Colo./Thunder Ridge) belted a two-run homer, while freshman second baseman Matt Owens (Highlands Ranch, Colo./Thunder Ridge) contributed a two-run double. In the nightcap, the Greyhounds (3-1) erupted for 12 runs in the final three innings to claim an 18-2 win. Trevor Davis went six innings to pick up the win as he limited Mines to just five hits and struck out six. CSM (4-2) returns to action this weekend when it hosts Midland Lutheran for a four-game series at CSM Field. The teams will play a twinbill on Saturday at 12:00 pm and two more games on Sunday at 11:00 am. -- OREDIGGERS -- |
