MINES BASEBALL DROPS ALL FIVE AT CENTRAL WASHINGTON ELLENSBURG, Wash. - The Colorado School of Mines baseball team dropped all five of its games at Central Washington during its Spring Break trip at Tomlinson Field from Mar. 20-22. CSM dropped a pair of games on Mar. 20, losing the opener, 25-7, and the nightcap, 11-0. The following day, the Orediggers lost another two games, 4-0, and 18-2, before losing the final game of the series, 2-1. Junior southpaw Ryan Oliver (Littleton, Colo./Heritage) pitched the third game of the series and went all six innings, allowing five hits and four runs (two earned). He struck out two and walked two. Junior Brady Romberg (Aurora, Colo./Grandview) also threw well for Mines as he pitched a complete-game (eight innings) in the final game of the series and limited CWU to six hits and two runs, while striking out two and walking one. CSM, which hit just .167 (22-132) on the trip, was led by freshman second baseman Matt Owens (Highlands Ranch, Colo./Thunder Ridge) who went 6-for-18 with two homers and six runs batted in. Senior leftfielder Ryan Roth (Hesston, Kan./Hesston College) hit 3-for-11 with a homer, a double and two RBI. Mines (8-17, 0-0 RMAC) will return to action this weekend when it travels to CSU-Pueblo for a four-game series to open conference play. The first game is slated for Friday at 1:00 pm and will be followed by a doubleheader Saturday at 12:00 pm and a single game Sunday at 12:00 pm. -- OREDIGGERS -- |
