MINES BASEBALL SPLITS TWO WITH HASTINGS

GOLDEN, Colo. - The Colorado School of Mines baseball team split a nonconference doubleheader with Hastings College on Saturday afternoon at CSM Field. Hastings won the opener, 12-10, in eight innings, while Mines earned a 15-3 win in the nightcap.

In game one, CSM rallied from an 8-2 deficit in the seventh to knot the score at 8-8 and send the game into extra innings. Senior designated hitter Tommy Harris (Littleton, Colo./Columbine) provided the biggest hit with a grand slam homer.

However, Hastings (2-9) received a grand slam from Aaron Holt in the top of the eighth and Rob Vieham struck out two in the final inning to earn the save.

CSM freshman rightfielder Will Dickinson (Pleasanton, Calif./Amador Valley) went 3-for-3 with three RBI, while freshman second baseman Matt Owens (Highlands Ranch, Colo./Thunder Ridge) went 3-for-5.

In the nightcap, Mines (7-9) received a complete-game from junior southpaw Ryan Oliver (Littleton, Colo./Heritage). Oliver, who struck out six, improved to 3-1 on the season. Freshman shortstop Caleb Rudkin (Fort Collins, Colo./Fort Collins) led the offense as he went 3-for-5 with four RBI, while junior third baseman Joel D'Cristina (Pueblo, Colo./Pueblo Central) was 3-for-4 with three driven in.

The two teams will conclude their four-game series with another twinbill Sunday. First pitch is slated for 11:00 am.
