MINES BASEBALL SPLITS TWO WITH DOANE GOLDEN, Colo. - The Colorado School of Mines baseball team split a pair of games with Doane College in nonconference action Saturday at CSM Field. The Orediggers dropped game one, 7-5, but rallied to win the nightcap, 10-9. In the opener, the Tigers (5-3) scored three runs in the first inning and added single tallies in the third, fourth, fifth and sixth innings to pick up the win. Four different players drove in runs for Doane, while Matt Domangue scored three times. John Gadeken earned the win and improved to 3-0 this season. Freshman shortstop Caleb Rudkin (Fort Collins, Colo./Fort Collins) went 3-for-4 with a run and an RBI, while junior Vince Ruscetta (Westminster, Colo./Standley Lake) took the loss and fell to 0-3. In game two, CSM freshman Matt Owens (Highlands Ranch, Colo./Thunder Ridge) reached on a one-out fielder's choice to second base that scored freshman Will Dickinson (Pleasanton, Calif./Amador Valley) with the winning run. The Orediggers (8-12) rallied from a 9-7 deficit to score three in the ninth and earn the win. Freshman leftfielder Nick Walker (Denver, Colo./Wheat Ridge) went 3-for-4 with three RBI and a run, while sophomore Kevan Dee (Haxtun, Colo./Haxtun) picked up the win as he threw 5 1/3 innings of four-hit relief.
