MINES BASEBALL FALLS IN OPENER TO FORT HAYS, 13-2 GOLDEN, Colo. - The Colorado School of Mines baseball team opened its season finale four-game Rocky Mountain Athletic Conference series with Fort Hays State by dropping the opener, 13-2, on Friday afternoon at CSM Field. The Tigers (24-20, 11-12 RMAC) scored five in the first and three more in the second as they took a 12-1 lead after four innings. Mines sophomore catcher John Naccarato (Parker, Colo./Chapparel) led his squad as he went 3-for-4 with two doubles and an RBI. Freshman second baseman Matt Owens (Highlands Ranch, Colo./ThunderRidge) was 2-for-5 with an RBI. Freshman Michael Svejcar (Arvada, Colo./Ralston Valley) took the loss for Mines and fell to 1-6. Hays was led by Dallas Christison who went 5-for-6 with two runs and two RBI, while Jason Rees drove in three and hit a homer. Scott Chew (6-3) picked up the win as he fired a complete-game, giving up 11 hits, two runs and striking out five. Mines (12-39, 4-21 RMAC) will host FHSU for an RMAC doubleheader on Saturday beginning at 1:00 pm at CSM Field. -- OREDIGGERS -- |
