MINES BASEBALL DROPS TWINBILL TO FORT HAYS STATE

GOLDEN, Colo. - The Colorado School of Mines baseball team dropped two games to Fort Hays State in Rocky Mountain Athletic Conference action Saturday afternoon at CSM Field. The Tigers took the opener, 7-2, and won the nightcap, 13-3.

In game one, CSM was led by junior rightfielder Mike Ott (Louisville, Colo./Monarch) who went 3-for-4 with an RBI, a run and two doubles. Junior Kevan Dee (Haxtun, Colo./Haxtun) threw a complete game for Mines and took the loss (0-4).

In the finale, senior designated hitter Matt Fritzinger (San Antonio, Texas/Central Catholic) went 2-for-2, while sophomore third baseman Joel D'Cristina (Pueblo, Colo./Pueblo Central) drove in two runs. Sophomore Matt Thome (Espanola, N.M./Los Alamos) took the loss and slipped to 2-3.

FHSU (26-20, 13-12 RMAC) was led by Jeff Bieker who went a combined 7-for-8 with three homers, six runs scored, two doubles and six runs batted in. Tom Goodwin fired a complete-game, eight hitter to pick up the win (4-6) in the opener, while three pitchers combined on a six hitter in game two. Steven Walters went five innings to earn the win and move to 6-0.

The two teams will conclude their four-game RMAC series with a 12:00 pm game on Sunday. It will be the season finale for Mines.
