MINES BASEBALL LOSES ALL FOUR AT MESA STATE GRAND JUNCTION, Colo. - The Colorado School of Mines baseball team lost all four games at Mesa State in Rocky Mountain Athletic Conference action over the weekend at Suplizio Field. The Mavericks, ranked sixth in the nation and first in the region, won Friday nights opener, 8-0, and came back to win both games on Saturday, 15-7 and 4-2. On Sunday, Mesa State (41-11, 21-3 RMAC) won the series finale, 22-6. Freshman Nick Walker (Wheat Ridge, Colo./Wheat Ridge) led the Orediggers as he hit .364 (4-11) in the series with a double, three runs batted in and a stolen base. Sophomore catcher John Naccarato (Parker, Colo./Chapparel) hit .286 (.4-14) with a run, a triple and three RBI in the four-game set. Junior Kevan Dee (Haxtun, Colo./Haxtun) turned in the best pitching performace for Mines as he threw in the 4-2 loss. He pitched a complete game (six innings) and allowed four runs (three earned) on nine hits, while striking out one and not walking a batter. Mines (12-38, 4-20 RMAC) will conclude its season with a four-game series against Fort Hays State at CSM Field this weekend. The opener will be Friday at 3:00 pm. -- OREDIGGERS -- |
