CSM BASEBALL SPLITS TWO WITH MIDLAND LUTHERAN

GOLDEN, Colo. - For the second consecutive day, the Colorado School of Mines baseball team split a pair of games with Midland Lutheran in nonconference action at CSM Field. CSM won the opener, 9-5, before falling in the series finale, 6-1.

In game one, Mines (6-4) scored two runs in the second, third, fourth, fifth and sixth innings to claim the win. Senior designated hitter Tommy Harris (Littleton, Colo./Columbine) went 2-for-3 with two runs and a two run homer, while freshman shortstop Caleb Rudkin (Fort Collins, Colo./Fort Collins) drove in two runs.

Junior southpaw Ryan Oliver (Littleton, Colo./Heritage) picked up the win as he went six innings, allowing four runs (three earned). Sophomore Matt Thome (Espanola, N.M./Espanola) earned his second save of the season as he worked out of a bases loaded jam in the seventh.

In game two, the Warriors (2-2) scored five times in the sixth to break a 1-1 tie. MLC scored in the first and Oliver tied the game with an RBI single in the fifth.

Nate Bunton earned the win as he went six innings and held Mines to four hits, while striking out five.

CSM is slated to return to action Friday afternoon when it hosts New Mexico Highlands at 2:00 pm in the opening day of the RMAC Preseason Tournament.
