MINES BASEBALL FALLS TO HIGHLANDS, 9-2

GOLDEN, Colo. - The Colorado School of Mines baseball team dropped the final game of its four-game Rocky Mountain Athletic Conference series to New Mexico Highlands, 9-2, on Sunday afternoon at CSM Field. NMHU, which is ranked 25th in the latest NCAA Division II Poll, wound up taking the final three games of the series after the Orediggers won Friday's opener.

In today's game, CSM received a homer from sophomore first baseman Tully Gallagher (Red Lodge, Mont./Red Lodge), while freshman second baseman Matt Owens (Highlands Ranch, Colo./Thunder Ridge) went 2-for-4.

Senior Kevin Barrett (Lafayette, Colo./Centaurus) fell to 4-6 on the season as he pitched six innings, allowing seven runs (six earned) on 13 hits. He struck out one and did not walk a batter.

The Cowboys (26-12, 10-5 RMAC) received a two-run homer from Mike Ramazotti, while Rich Janeway, Eric Garcia and Tim Masters each hit a solo homer.

Janeway and Garcia combined to go 6-for-9 with three runs and six RBI in the game.

Jason Weldon, who was making his first start of the season, picked up the win to move to 1-2 this year. He went seven innings and allowed just five hits and two runs and fanned eight.

CSM (12-29, 4-12 RMAC) will return to action on Friday when it opens a four-game RMAC series with Metro State with a single nine-inning game at 3:00 pm at CSM Field.
