MINES BASEBALL FALLS TO NEBRASKA-KEARNEY IN SERIES FINALE GOLDEN, Colo. - The Colorado School of Mines baseball team dropped an 18-4 decision to Nebraska-Kearney in Rocky Mountain Athletic Conference action Sunday afternoon at CSM Field. The win enabled the Lopers to earn a split of the four-game series with Mines after the Orediggers won the first two games. UNK (14-19, 3-5 RMAC), which led 7-1 after four innings, broke the game open with nine tallies in the fifth. Mines (10-21, 2-6 RMAC) was led by freshman centerfielder Nick Walker (Wheat Ridge, Colo./Wheat Ridge) who went 2-for-4 with two runs and an RBI. Freshman catcher Mike Deal (Highlands Ranch, Colo./ThunderRidge) drove in the only other run for Mines. Michael Svejcar (Arvada, Colo./Ralston Valley) took the loss in relief for Mines and fell to 0-2 on the season. Ryan Dettman (4-2) earned the win for Kearney as he went six innings, giving up three runs on eight hits. Travis Kerkman led the Loper offense as he finished 4-for-5 with four runs, five RBI, and a homer. CSM will return to action on Friday when it travels to Regis to open a four-game series with a single, nine-inning game. First pitch is slated for 3:00 pm. -- OREDIGGERS -- |
