CSM BASEBALL SWEEPS TWINBILL FROM YORK

GOLDEN, Colo. - The Colorado School of Mines baseball team swept the final two games of a four-game nonconference series with York on Sunday afternoon at CSM Field. Mines, which took 3-of-4 in the series, won Sunday's opener, 14-7, and claimed the nightcap, 10-4.

In game one, the Orediggers scored seven runs in the first and four more in the fourth in cruising to the win. Freshman centerfielder Michael Svejcar (Arvada, Colo./Ralston Valley) went 3-for-4 with two runs and drove in three more to lead the way offensively.

Junior Ryan Oliver (Littleton, Colo./Heritage) picked up the win on the mound as he went five innings, allowing three runs on eight hits and striking out five.

In the series finale, junior Brady Romberg (Aurora, Colo./Grandview) went the distance to earn the win. He allowed just seven hits and four runs (two earned) and fanned seven. Senior third baseman Stephan Krier (Sterling, Colo./Sterling) went 2-for-3 with two runs and five RBI, including a three-run homer, to pace the Oredigger offense.

Mines (3-1) will return to action next weekend with a four-game series at Eastern New Mexico. The teams will play two games on Saturday beginning at 12:00 pm and two more on Sunday at 11:00 am.
