CSM BASEBALL TOPS NEBRASKA-KEARNEY, 12-4, IN SEASON FINALE GOLDEN, Colo. - Colorado School of Mines senior rightfielder John Naccarato (Parker, Colo./Chapparel) went 3-for-5 with three runs and five RBI and senior pitcher Matt Thome (Espanola, N.M./Los Alamos) pitched eight strong innings to lead the Orediggers to a 12-4 win over Nebraska-Kearney on Sunday afternoon in Rocky Mountain Athletic Conference action at Darden Field. Game two of Sunday's twinbill was called in the top of the third inning due to rain. UNK (28-21, 21-15 RMAC) took a 2-0 lead in the top of the first on a two-run homer by Cody Lusero. However, CSM rallied with five runs in the first and three more in the second for the win. Thome pitched eight innings, allowing four runs and fanning five before giving way to fellow senior Cory Quakenbush (Centennial, Colo./Grandview) who worked a scoreless ninth. Third baseman Joel D'Cristina (Pueblo, Colo./Pueblo Central) was the fourth and final senior who was playing his final game at CSM this afternoon. He finished 1-for-5 with an RBI. The four seniors were honored prior to the start of Sunday's contest. Redshirt freshman catcher Anthony Siderius (Castle Rock, Colo./Douglas County) went 3-for-4 with four RBI, including a homer. CSM finished the 2007 season 14-38 overall and 9-29 in conference play. - OREDIGGERS - CSM BASEBALL FALLS TO NEBRASKA-KEARNEY, 19-8 GOLDEN, Colo. - Nebraska-Kearney first baseman Joe Nowaczyk went 5-for-5 with two homers and 10 runs batted in to lead the Lopers to a 19-8 win over Colorado School of Mines in Rocky Mountain Athletic Conference baseball action Saturday afternoon at Darden Field. The second game of Saturday's doubleheader was rained out and will be made up on Sunday as part of a doubleheader at Darden Field. The first game is scheduled to begin at 12:00 pm. Nowaczyk led UNK to an 11 run second inning by hitting a grand slam and driving in six runs in the inning. His 10 RBI were three shy of tying the NCAA Division II single game record. CSM senior rightfielder John Naccarato (Parker, Colo./Chapparel) went 2-for-4 with two runs batted in and a run scored. He also came into catch fellow senior Joel D'Cristina (Pueblo, Colo./Pueblo Central) in the seventh inning. D'Cristina was making his first career appearance on the mound. CSM (13-37, 8-28 RMAC) scored 19 runs over the first four innings, including eight in the second in cruising to the win. Redshirt freshman catcher Anthony Siderius (Castle Rock, Colo./Douglas County) led the way offensively as he was 4-for-6 with three runs and a career-high six runs batted in. Junior first baseman Mike Deal (Highlands Ranch, Colo./ThunderRidge) went 4-for-4 with five runs, four RBI and two homers. The win enabled the Thunderwolves to complete a four-game sweep. CSU-Pueblo took a 3-1 lead after four innings with three runs in the fourth. However, the Orediggers came right back with two runs in the fifth and single tallies in the sixth, seventh and eighth innings to reclaim a 6-4 lead. Junior centerfielder Nick Walker (Denver, Colo./Wheat Ridge) delivered two key hits with a two-run single in the fifth and an RBI double in the eighth. He finished 2-for-5 with three RBI. Metro State won the opener, 9-3, and the nightcap, 20-3 In game one, Metro State's Kyle Christensen, Reece Gorman and Jake Palmer combined to go 10-for-15 with seven runs scored and seven RBI. Each hit a two run homer. Bradan Ham picked up the win (2-6) as he went eight innings, allowing three runs (one earned) on nine hits. He struck out seven. Mesa State (33-6, 22-2 RMAC) won the opener, 9-4, and completed a four-game sweep with a 10-7 win in the series finale. Stefan Revielle led Mines in the four games series with a .667 batting average. He went 10-for-15 with six runs, four doubles and four runs batted in. With the four loses the Orediggers are now 10-25 and 6-17 in conference play. Naccarato delivered a two-run triple in the first inning and then connected on a two-run single in the fourth as CSM built a 5-3 lead after four innings. Koniz worked five innings, allowing six hits and three runs, while striking out five as he moved to 1-0 this season. The Cowboys then completed the sweep behind the pitching of Brandon Alves. He pitched 6 2/3 innings, allowing three runs on seven hits. He fanned five and improved to 3-1. The Thunderwolves won the opener, 6-2, and won the nightcap, 16-4, in five innings. The game was called after five due to rain. CSM (4-11, 2-4 RMAC) was led by sophomore leftfielder Stefan Revielle (Longmont, Colo./Longmont) who went 3-for-4 with three runs in the two games. Junior second baseman Caleb Rudkin (Fort Collins, Colo./Fort Collins) drove in two with a triple in game two.
