MIKE MULVANEY

Mike Mulvaney is entering his 12th year as the head coach
of the Colorado School of Mines baseball team. He has coached and played
at the high school and collegiate levels and has also played professionally
in the Cincinnati Reds organization.
Last season, Mulvaney guided five CSM players to All-RMAC honors, including
junior pitcher Matt Thome who was a Second Team selection after going
6-7.
In 2002, Mulvaney guided CSM to 22 wins, which marked the the second
most in school history, succeeded only by Mulvaneys 1999 squad
which posted 28 wins. The 1999 season marked the first winning baseball
season at CSM since 1983. For his efforts in 1999, Mulvaney was honored
as the Rocky Mountain Athletic Conference Coach of the Year.
Mulvaney graduated from Arvada West High School in 1983 and attended
the University of Wyoming, where he was a four-year letterman as a first
baseman, catcher, designated hitter and third baseman. He earned all-conference
accolades in 1986 and 1987, was selected to the all-conference tournament
team in 1988, and was an All-American third team selection in 1988.
Mulvaney set the UW career home run record with 38.
He graduated with a degree in Middle School Education in 1990, and received
his Masters in Educational Administration from the University of Phoenix
in 1998.
Following his outstanding career as a Cowboy, Mulvaney signed with the
Cincinnati Reds in 1988. He was selected to the All-Star team in 1989
and 1990, and was voted the South Atlantic League Player of the Year,
Topps Baseball Player of the Year, and the Cincinnati Reds Organizational
Player of the Year in 1989. He also set the Greensborough Hornets record
for RBI in a season with 112, formerly held by former New York Yankee
first baseman Don Mattingly.
He has coached the Sheridan Troopers, an American Legion A
team in Sheridan, Wyo., and was also at the helm of the Arvada High
School baseball program and was voted the Jefferson County Coach of
the Year in 1995.
Mulvaney has been a Physical Education teacher in the Jefferson County
school system for 14 years. He and his wife, Jill, who is a fourth grade
teacher, live in Arvada with their daughter Bryonna and their son Justin.
