BRENT SYMONS
ASSISTANT FOOTBALL COACH - TIGHT ENDS
Brent Symons is entering his third season as an assistant
football coach with Colorado School of Mines. Symons, who assisted with
the offensive linemen in 2005 and 2006, will coach the tight ends in 2007.
In 2006, Symons helped guide a CSM offensive line that yielded the second
fewest sacks in the RMAC. In fact, the Orediggers' finished with the second-ranked
red zone offense in the conference last fall. Center Nick Belden went
on to earn First Team All-RMAC and NFF First Team All-Colorado honors,
tight end Derek Dykstra garnered Second Team All-RMAC laurels and right
tackle Zach Meints brought home Honorable Mention All-RMAC honors. The
2006 CSM offensive line also paved the way for former Oredigger Bryan
Florendo to become the first Oredigger to rush for 1,000 yards (1,018)
since 1939.
Two years ago, Symons helped lead a pair of linemen to All-RMAC
recognition, including Travis Yenne, who earned First Team All-Region
and Second Team All-America honors.
A native of Canon City, Colorado, Symons graduated from Canon City High
School in 1999. Symons went on compete at Western State in 1999, where
he played cornerback for the Mountaineer football squad.
After a year in Gunnison, Symons transferred to Northern Colorado and
graduated in 2004 with a degree in Sport & Exercise Science. He also
minored in coaching.
Symons served as the freshman head coach and varsity wide receivers coach
at Windsor High School from 2001-02. In 2003, he was an assistant coach
at Greeley West High School, where he also worked with the wide receivers.
Symons currently resides in Denver.
