MINES GOLF PLACES SIXTH AT REGIONAL HEAD TO HEAD
Vallee Claims 14th Overall

HASTINGS, Neb. - The Colorado School of Mines golf team placed sixth of 14 teams at the Northwest Regional Fall Head to Head Competition at Lochland Country Club on Monday and Tuesday. The teams played 36 holes on Monday and finished with 18 on Tuesday.

The sixth place showing put Mines is good position to qualify for the regional championships this spring. Qualification for regionals is based on the aggregate score of the two head-to-head qualifiers between the Rocky Mountain Athletic Conference and the North Central Conference. The top eight make the field and the other qualifier will be played in the spring.

The Orediggers opened the tournament with a 301 and followed that with rounds of 300 and 305 for a three round total of 906, just 10 strokes behind fifth place North Dakota, 12 behind fourth place CU-Colorado Springs and 14 behind third place Fort Hays State.

Mines sophomore Mark Vallee (Louisville, Colo./Monarch) led the way as he placed 14th overall with a three-round total of 222 (71-77-74). Junior Steve Greene (Westminster, Colo./Standley Lake) and sophomore Joe Ronevich (Wintersville, Ohio/Steubenville Catholic) tied for 26th overall at 228.

St. Cloud State won the qualifier with an 862, while Brett Swedberg and Chris Little of SCSU shared medalist honors with totals of 213. Fort Lewis was the runner-up, 20 shots behind St. Cloud State (882).
