RAY RODRIGUEZ TIES FOR 16th AT NCAA DIVISION II NORTHWEST REGIONALS

Colorado Mines senior Ray Rodriguez tied for 16th place at the 2003 NCAA Division II Northwest Regional Championships contested Monday through Wednesday at The Meadows Golf Course in Littleton, Colo. Rodriguez carded rounds of 74-73-80 for a 54-hole total of 227.

Rodriguez was the lone Oredigger to compete at regionals, which concludes the 2003 spring season for Mines.

MINES GOLF FINISHES EIGHTH AT CSM/REGIS INVITE

LAKEWOOD, Colo. - The Colorado Mines golf team placed eighth out of 11 teams at the 27-hole CSM/Regis Invite contested on Monday and Tuesday. The 11 competing teams counted just their first nine holes at The Meadows Golf Course on Monday and finished the tournament with 18 holes of competition at Bear Creek Golf Course on Tuesday.

CU-Colorado Springs won the event with a 27-hole total of 447. It was followed by Adams State (454), Air Force (467), Nebraska-Kearney (469), Montana State-Billings (470), Fort Lewis (471), Northern Colorado (477), Colorado Mines (481), Regis (482), Fort Hays State (484) and Colorado Christian (491).

Leading the way for the Orediggers was senior Ray Rodriguez who tied for 23rd with a total of 118. Rodriguez opened with a 39 at The Meadows and followed with a 79 at Bear Creek. Freshman Travis Reilly tied for 31st with a 27-hole total of 121 (44-77).

MINES GOLF PLACES EIGHTH AT NORTHWEST REGIONAL SPRING HEAD TO HEAD CHAMPIONSHIPS

LINCOLN, Neb. - The Colorado Mines golf squad placed eighth out of 17 teams at the Northwest Regional Spring Head to Head Tournament contested on Monday and Tuesday at Firethorne Country Club. CSM shot a three-round total of 965 and moved into eighth place in the overall regional tournament standings, The eight-team field for the tournament, slated for May 5-7, is scheduled to be selected on April 25.

Mines shot rounds of 337-309-319 to finish just one shot behind Southern Colorado for seventh place. CU-Colorado Springs won the event with a three-round total of 937, one stroke better than Fort Lewis.

CSM freshman Travis Reilly (Louisville, Colo./Monarch) was the lone Oredigger to place in the top-20 as he tied for 20th place with rounds of 86-75-77 (238).

Mines is scheduled to be in action again on Apr. 21-22 when it co-hosts the 36-hole Colorado Mines/Regis Invitational. The first round is slated to be played at The Meadows, while round two will be contested at Bear Creek.

CSM GOLF PLACES FIFTH AT BEAR SPRING INVITATIONAL

WINDSOR, Colo. - The Colorado Mines golf squad registered a fifth place showing out of six teams at the Northern Colorado Bear Spring Invitational contested on Monday and Tuesday at Pelican Lakes Golf Course. Mines shot a first round 342 and followed with a closing 323 for a 36-hole total of 665.

Northern Colorado won the event with a 618 and was followed by Regis (628), Adams State (644), Montana State Billings (654), Colorado Mines and Colorado Christian (673).

Senior Ray Rodriguez (Fort Morgan, Colo./Fort Morgan) was the top Oredigger finisher as he placed seventh with a two-round total of 156. He opened with a 79 on Monday and followed that with a second round 77.

Mines is scheduled to be in action next when it competes at the second Regional Qualifier of the season from April 13-15 in Lincoln, Neb.

MINES GOLF FINISHES IN SEVENTH AT FORT HAYS INVITATIONAL

HAYS, Kan. - The Colorado Mines golf squad registered a seventh place showing out of eight teams at the 54-hole Fort Hays Invitational on Monday and Tuesday at Smoky Hill Country Club. Mines shot 337-323-307 for a three-round total of 967. The first two rounds were played on Monday and the final 18 holes were contested on Tuesday.

CU-Colorado Springs won the event with an 896 and was followed by Southern Colorado (914), Fort Lewis and Oklahoma Panhandle State (923), Fort Hays State (944), Nebraska-Kearney (946), Colorado Mines and Adams State (979).

Leading the way for the Orediggers was senior Ray Rodriguez (Fort Morgan, Colo./Fort Morgan) who placed ninth with total of 230 (1-78-71), while freshman Travis Reilly (Louisville, Colo./Monarch) claimed a tie for 11th place at 232 (82-74-76).

Mines is scheduled to be in action on March 31 and April 1 when it competes at the Regis Invitational. The first round will be contested at Fox Hollow, while round two will be played at Bear Creek.

CSM GOLF SQUAD CLAIMS THIRD AT REGIS INVITATIONAL

LAKEWOOD, Colo. -- The Colorado School of Mines golf team recorded a third place finish out of seven teams at the 36-hole Regis Invitational on Sunday and Monday. Round one was contested at Fox Hollow, while the final round was played at The Meadows.

The Orediggers’ shot a two-day total of 618 (299-319) to finish in third place. Nebraska-Kearney won the team championship with a 589 (293-296) as it was the only team to shoot two rounds under 300. Regis tallied a second place finish with a 610 total (298-312) and was followed by Mines.

Junior Doug Klepacki (Colorado Springs, Colo./Air Academy) was the top Mines finisher as he tied for ninth with a two-round total of 152 (75-77). UNK’s Wes Kosch captured medalis honors as he was the only golfer to shoot two rounds at par or better (71-72) for a total of 143.

MINES GOLF PLACES EIGHTH AT REGIONAL QUALIFIER

KEARNEY, Neb. -- The Colorado School of Mines golf team recorded an eighth place finish out of 17 teams at the 2002 Fall Regional Head to Head contested at Meadowlark Golf Course on Sunday and Monday.

The Orediggers fired a three-round total of 870 (288-292-290) to tie for eighth with Augustana College. South Dakota State won the team title with a three-round total of 849.

In the individual race, CSM senior Ray Rodriguez (Fort Morgan, Colo./Fort Morgan) tied for 13th place as he shot a total of 215. Rodriguez opened play with a 71 and followed that up with a pair of 72’s. Freshman Travis Reilly (Louisville, Colo./Monarch) and sophomore Keith Walter (Minot, S.D./Bishop Ryan) tied for 28th place in the individual race with three-round totals of 218. Neil Huffaker of Fort Lewis won medalist honors with a total of 206 (70-69-67).

MINES GOLF FINISHES SEVENTH AT RMAC CHAMPIONSHIPS

BENNETT, Colo. -- The Colorado School of Mines golf team recorded a seventh place finish out of nine teams at the 2002 Rocky Mountain Athletic Conference Championships contested at Antelope Hills Golf Course in Bennett, Colo. on Monday and Tuesday.

After opening the tournament with back-to-back rounds of 294 on Monday, the Orediggers shot a third-round total of 313 to claim seventh place. CSM freshman Travis Reilly (Louisville, Colo./Monarch) was the top Oredigger finisher as he shot a three-round total of 221 (72-74-75) to place in a tie for 17th.

UC-Colorado Springs won the team championship as it shot a total of 844 (282-280-282). Mountain Lion junior Mark Hocking earned medalist honors at the championships. After shooting 74-67 on Monday, Hocking fired an eight-under par 64 in the final round for a three-round total of 205 (11 under par).

The Orediggers will return to action next weekend when they compete at the first Regional Qualifier at Nebraska-Kearney from Sept. 29-Oct. 1.

MINES GOLF TEAM FINISHES NINTH AT ADAMS STATE

GOLDEN, Colo. -- The Colorado School of Mines golf team finished ninth of 12 teams at the Adams State Invitational over the weekend at the Cattails Golf Course.

The Orediggers shot a three-day total of 914 to claim ninth place. CU-Colorado Springs shot a final day total of 281 to win the team championship. In the individual competition, CSM senior Ray Rodriguez (Fort Morgan, Colo./Fort Morgan) fired a three-day total of 221 (73-76-72) to finish in a tie for 12th place. Adam Jardon of Adams State won the individual competition by defeating Neil Huffaker of Fort Lewis on the first playoff hole.

CSM will return to action on Sept. 23-24 when it serves as the host of the two-day RMAC Championships at Antelope Hills Golf Course in Bennett, Colo.
