CU-COLORADO SPRINGS WINS MINES/REGIS GOLF INVITATIONAL; ADAM JARDON OF ADAMS STATE CLAIMS INDIVIDUAL TITLE BY ONE STROKE LAKEWOOD, Colo. - The University of Colorado - Colorado Springs won the 27-hole 2003 Colorado School of Mines / Regis University Spring Men's Golf Invitational, finishing with a two-day team stroke total of 447. Initially, the tournament was scheduled to consist of 36 holes. After inclement weather shortened Monday's action at The Meadows G.C. (par 36 on front nine) in Littleton, Colo., the event was changed to comprise solely of 18 holes at Bear Creek Golf Course (par 72) in Lakewood, Colo., on Tuesday. However, it was decided on Tuesday morning that teams would indeed count the first nine holes from Monday as part of the event. Adams State College, paced by Adam Jardon's first place finish (37, 71; 108), took second place, finishing just seven strokes (454) behind the Mountain Lions. The U.S. Air Force Academy took third (467), Nebraska - Kearney fourth (469), Montana State University - Billings fifth (470), Fort Lewis College sixth (471), Northern Colorado seventh (477), Colorado School of Mines eighth (481), Regis University ninth (482), Fort Hays State 10th (484) and Colorado Christian 11th (491). Individually, CU - Colorado Springs' Chase Wortmann (34,
75; 109) and Mark Hocking (37, 73; 110) took second and third, respectively.
Adams State's Jeff Philippe (35, 76; 111) finished fourth while UNK's
Greg Davis (38, 74; 112), UNC's Mario Samora (36, 76; 112) and CU -
Colorado Springs' John Lane (competing as an individual - 36, 76; 112)
all tied for fifth.
