MINES SOFTBALL SWEEPS TWO FROM ADAMS STATE GOLDEN, Colo. - The Colorado School of Mines softball team earned a sweep of Adams State in Rocky Mountain Athletic Conference action Saturday afternoon at CSM Field. The Orediggers won the opener, 6-3, and won the finale, 8-7, as junior first baseman Tyler Farley (Arvada, Colo./Arvada West) belted a two-out, walk-off home run to centerfield. In game one, Mines (16-10, 5-5 RMAC) scored six runs in the third inning to claim the win. Senior pitcher Melanie Mahoney (Erie, Colo./Colorado State) and junior catcher Andi Eickelman (Pueblo, Colo./Pueblo South) drove in two runs apiece, while Mahoney also picked up the win on the mound to improve to 11-5. She went the distance, allowing just four hits and three runs (two earned), while fanning three. Mandi Roark hit a two-run homer in the first for Adams State (9-21, 2-15), while Amy Lefevre took the loss (1-6). In game two, the Orediggers led 7-6 heading into the seventh inning, but Barbie Scott hit a homer to knot the score at 7-7 before Farley delivered the game-winning home run. Farley finished 2-for-2 with two runs and an RBI, while junior centerfielder Brittany McKenzie (Pueblo, Colo./Pueblo South) went 3-for-4 with three runs and two RBI and missed hitting for the cycle by a triple. Senior Kim Kilmer (Stoneham, Colo./Prairie) picked up the win (3-4) as she went five innings in relief, allowing four runs (two earned) on six hits. Kira Zeiter went 3-for-3, while Scott was 2-for-3 with two runs in the finale. Amy Cousin (1-7) took the loss for the Grizzlies.
