MINES SOFTBALL SWEEPS COLORADO COLLEGE

COLORADO SPRINGS, Colo. - The Colorado School of Mines softball team completed a four-game sweep of Colorado College by winning two road games on Sunday afternoon. CSM took the opener, 16-4, and finished the sweep with an 11-4 win.

In game one, senior Melanie Mahoney (Erie, Colo./Colorado State) threw four innings of one hit ball and did not allow a run, while striking out two. Freshman first baseman Rissa Laubhan (Arvada, Colo./Ralston Valley) led the offense for Mines as she went 3-for-3 with eight runs batted in and two runs scored.

Game two saw junior centerfielder Brittany McKenzie (Pueblo, Colo./Pueblo South) hit her second grand slam home run in as many days, while sophomore third baseman Brianne Brennan (Grand Junction, Colo./Grand Junction) drove in two runs.

Freshman Danika Johnson (Westminster, Colo./Standley Lake) moved to 2-1 on the year as she went four innings, allowing four runs on seven hits.

CSM (5-1) will return to action next weekend when it hosts Nebraska-Kearney for a four-game series to open conference play. The teams will play a doubleheader on Saturday at 12:00 pm and another twinbill on Sunday at 11:00 am at CSM Field.
