MINES SOFTBALL SPLITS TWO WITH CSU-PUEBLO

GOLDEN, Colo. - The Colorado School of Mines softball team split a pair of games with Colorado State-Pueblo in Rocky Mountain Athletic Conference action Saturday afternoon at CSM Field. The Orediggers won game one, 3-1, but fell in the nightcap, 7-3.

In game one, senior Melanie Mahoney (Erie, Colo./Colorado State) threw a complete-game, seven hitter and struck out three to lead Mines, which scored one run in each of the first three innings. She moved to 6-2 on the season.

Sophomore third baseman Brianne Brennan (Grand Junction, Colo./Central) hit a solo homer for Mines, while sophomore second baseman Beth Skidmore (Littleton, Colo./Dakota Ridge) and Mahoney also drove in one run each.

In game two, CSU-Pueblo's Breanna Hedstrom fired a complete-game and struck out two to pick up the win and improve to 3-1 this season. Brittany Pohlen nailed a three-run homer for CSU-P to highlight a four-run third inning.

Mahoney and Brennan each went 2-for-4 with an RBI in game two.

The two teams are slated to play another doubleheader Sunday at CSM Field with the first pitch slated for 11:00 am.
