MINES SOFTBALL TEAM FALLS TWICE TO REGIS

GOLDEN, Colo. - The Colorado School of Mines softball team dropped a pair of games to Regis University in Rocky Mountain Athletic Conference action Thursday afternoon at CSM Field. The Rangers took the opener in five innings, 11-2, and won the nightcap, 14-0, in five stanzas.

In game one, Regis (25-6, 21-2 RMAC) received a complete-game, three hitter from Nicole Breeding. She allowed two earned runs and fanned four as she moved to 12-2 on the season. Michelle Johnston, Anna Schafer and Christine Gardella all drove in two runs for the Rangers.

CSM (17-19, 6-14 RMAC) senior Melanie Mahoney (Erie, Colo./Colorado State) took the loss and dropped to 11-11 this year. She also had one of CSM's three hits.

In game two, Regis' Mariah Piper went 2-for-3 with two runs and seven runs batted in, including a grand slam homer, to pace the offense. Schafer drove in three more in the nightcap.

Mines senior Kim Kilmer (Stoneham, Colo./Prairie) took the loss and fell to 4-7, while Kaitlyn Gentert fired a complete-game, two-hitter and struck out one to improve to 13-4 this season.

Mines is slated to return to action with four games at Fort Hays State this weekend. Saturday's twinbill is scheduled for 12:00 pm, while Sunday's games will begin at 11:00 am.
