MINES SOFTBALL SPLITS TWO WITH NEBRASKA-KEARNEY GOLDEN, Colo. - The Colorado School of Mines softball team split a pair of games with Nebraska-Kearney in Rocky Mountain Athletic Conference action Sunday afternoon at CSM Field. UNK won the opener, 6-0, but rebounded to win game two, 3-2. In game one, Kristy Roethemeyer threw a complete-game, three-hitter and struck out eight to lead the Lopers. Cody Pettibone went 3-for-4 and drove in four runs to lead the Loper offense. In game two, CSM senior Melanie Mahoney (Erie, Colo./Colorado State) threw a complete-game, five-hitter and struck out four. She moved to 5-2 on the season with the win. Mahoney and junior centerfielder Brittany McKenzie (Pueblo, Colo./Pueblo South) each registered two hits, while Mahoney and freshman first baseman Rissa Laubhan (Arvada, Colo./Ralston Valley) drove in a run apiece. The two teams wound up splitting the four-game series to open RMAC play. CSM (7-3, 2-2 RMAC) will return to action next weekend when it hosts Colorado State-Pueblo for a four-game RMAC series at CSM Field.
