CSM Softball Team Ends Season with a 2-2 Series against New Mexico Highlands

Las Vegas, N.M - The Colorado School of Mines softball team ended their season this past weekend, going 2-2 in their four game series against the New Mexico Highlands Cowgirls.

Mines dropped both games Saturday afternoon, but bounced back Sunday with two wins. The Orediggers fell to the Cowgirls 8-7 and 5-4 on Saturday and came up with 10-7 and 6-5 victories the following day.

Freshman pitcher Katie Kocman pitched the Orediggers to both wins on Sunday, Kocman pitched a total of 11 innings allowing 12 hits and six runs on the day. Not only did she have a great day from the mound, but she also led the way swinging the bat.

In these two games she ended with a .625 batting average, hitting five for eight, with four runs, four RBI's and a homerun.

Mines concluded their season this weekend and ended with a 14-26 overall record and a 10-26 conference record.

CSM Softball Team Takes Two from Fort Hays

GOLDEN, Colo. - The Colorado School of Mines softball team took two games this afternoon from the Tigers of Fort Hays State University. The Orediggers bounced back from yesterdays two losses, with two big wins.

Mines came away with a 7-6 and 2-0 victory over the Tigers, with great offensive and defensive plays.

Freshman pitcher Katie Kocman (Littleton, Colo./Columbine)pitched a double header today, coming away with two victories to add to her stats. Kocman pitched 14 innings on the day, allowing only three hits in the second game leading her team to a 2-0 win.

Three seniors played their final home games of the career, while all three had great hitting days. Andi Eickelman (Pueblo, Colo./Pueblo East) ended the day with three hits, one RBI and one double. Tyler Farley (Arvada, Colo./Arvada West) had another big day, hitting three for four with two RBI's and two doubles, while Brittany McKenzie (Pueblo, Colo./Pueblo South) had three hits, two RBI's and three runs.

Mines will return to action this weekend with away games against New Mexico Highlands.


CSM Softball Team Loses to Fort Hays State

GOLDEN, Colo. - The Colorado School of Mines softball team dropped a pair of games today against the visiting Tigers from Fort Hays State University.

The Orediggers dropped both games of the double header Saturday afternoon, losing 2-0 and 10-1.

Tyler Farley (Arvada, Colo./Arvada West) went two for two batting in Mines' second game of the day, hitting a single and a double.

Mines will return to action tomorrow with another double header against the Tigers. Game time is set for 11:00 am.

CSM Softball Team Takes Two from Adams State

ALAMOSA, Colo. - The Colorado School of Mines softball team won two of four games this weekend against the Adam State Grizzlies.

With double headers on both Friday and Saturday afternoon, the Orediggers were able to come up with a win each day. Friday, Mines took the first game from the Grizzlies 11-3, while dropping the second 8-0.

Freshman pitcher Katie Kocman (Littleton, Colo./Columbine) came up with her fourth win of the season as she pitched seven innings, allowing only seven hits and three runs. Designated hitter Rissa Laubhan (Arvada, Colo./Ralston Valley) went four for four hitting, with two runs and three RBI's.

Saturday, Mines again split games with Adams State as they lost the first one 7-5, and won the second with a score 14-4.


Once a again, pitcher Kocman came away with the win, allowing only six hits and four runs while striking out four batters. Stacie LaRocque (Erie, Colo./Monarch) hit a perfect four for four while scoring four runs.

Mines will return to action this weekend with their last home games of the season. Double headers are set for both Saturday and Sunday beginning at noon on Saturday and 11:00 am Sunday.

CSM SOFTBALL SPLITS TWO WITH UCCS

GOLDEN, Colo. - Colorado School of Mines freshman Margie Cone (Larkspur, Colo./Douglas County) scored with two outs on a wild pitch in the ninth inning to give the Orediggers a 5-4 win over UC-Colorado Springs in the series final on Sunday afternoon at CSM Field.

UCCS (27-6, 16-6 RMAC) won the opener, 9-0, with four runs in the second and three more in the third.

CSM freshman Katie Kocman (Littleton, Colo./Columbine) earned the win (3-8) in the nighcap as she pitched all nine innings, allowing four runs on 10 hits, while striking out three. Sophomore designated player Rissa Laubhan (Arvada, Colo./Ralston Valley) went 4-for-5 on the afternoon with one run, an RBI, two doubles and a homer.

Amanda Ritchie of UCCS won the opener as she limited CSM to three hits. She also took the loss in the nightcap as she went 6 2/3 innings in relief. She is now 16-2 this year.

CSM will return to action next weekend with a four-game RMAC series at Adams State. The teams will play a doubleheader on Friday at 12:00 pm and Saturday at 11:00 am.

CSM SOFTBALL SPLITS TWO WITH UCCS

GOLDEN, Colo. - Colorado School of Mines freshman pitcher Katie Kocman (Littleton, Colo./Columbine) fired a complete game, two hitter to lead CSM to a 5-1 victory over UC-Colorado Springs in the second game of Saturday's Rocky Mountain Athletic Conference doubleheader at CSM Field.

UCCS (26-5, 15-5 RMAC) won the opener, 4-0, as it scored four runs in the fourth inning highlighted by Janine Ota's three-run triple.

In game two, the Orediggers raced out to a 3-0 lead after three innings and the Mountain Lions did not threaten as Kocman struck out five. Redshirt freshman second baseman Peanut Eickelman (Pueblo, Colo./Pueblo East) went 3-for-4 with a run and an RBI in the second game, while sophomore shortstop Melissa Stratton (Aurora, Colo./Smoky Hill) and freshman leftfielder Margie Cone (Larkspur, Colo./Douglas County) each drove in two runs.

Amanda Ritchie improved to 15-1 this season as she won the opener with a complete game shutout. She allowed eight hits and fanned seven.

The two teams will conclude their four-game series with another doubleheader on Saturday. First pitch is slated for 11:00 am at CSM Field.

CSM SOFTBALL FALLS TO CONFERENCE LEADERS REGIS UNIVERSITY

GOLDEN, Colo. - The Colorado School of Mines softball team fell to the Regis Rangers this afternoon. Regis, the number one team in the Rocky Mountain Athletic Conference took two games from the Orediggers, winning 8-0 and 2-1.

The first game Regis had 12 hits while scoring eight runs, while the Orediggers struggled to get on the board, ending with only four hits.

The second game was closer as the Orediggerstrailed by one the entire game. Unable to get another score the Rangers went on to win 2-1.

Melissa Stratton (Denver, Colo./Smokey Hill) was three for three in the second game while Beth Skidmore was two for three with one RBI.

Mines will return to action this weekend with home games against The University of Colorado-Colorado Springs, Mountain Lions. First game on Saturday will begin at noon.

CSM SOFTBALL DROPS TWO TO FORT LEWIS

GOLDEN, Colo. - The Colorado School of Mines softball team fell to the Fort Lewis Skyhawks this afternoon.

Mines was unable to come up with a win as the Skyhawks defeated the Orediggers 6-0 and 17-6 in Sunday's double header.

In both games, the Skyhawks were able to out power the Orediggers in hitting. Mines struggled getting points on the board, while Fort Lewis was able to swing the bat well.

Mines' record falls to 6-16 overall and 2-16 in the conference after the two losses while Fort Lewis is now 19-15 overall and 8-12 in the conference.

The Orediggers will return to action this Wednesday with a home double header against Regis University. Games begin at 2:00 pm.

CSM SOFTBALL SPLITS GAMES AGAINST FORT LEWIS

GOLDEN, Colo. - The Colorado School of Mines softball team split a set of games Saturday afternoon when they faced the Fort Lewis College Skyhawks.

The Orediggers came away with an 8-2 win in the first game and dropped the second 4-1.

In the first game, a five run rally in the bottom of the sixth put Mines up 8-2 going into the seventh inning. Allowing no runs in the top of the seventh, Mines came away with the victory.

Freshman pitcher Taylor Cayou (Lakewood, Colo./Green Mountain) won the game, giving her a 3-4 record on the season. Cayou allowed five hits and two runs on the day, striking out two batters.

Melissa Stratton (Aurora, Colo./Smokey Hill) got the bat swinging as she was four for two with three runs.

The second game slipped away from the Orediggers as their 1-0 lead in the sixth disappeared as the Skyhawks rallied to score four in the top of the seventh, giving them the 4-1 win.

Mines will continue play against the Skyhawks tomorrow afternoon with two more games, slated for 11:00 and 1:00.

CSM SOFTBALL DROPS TWO TO REGIS

DENVER, Colo. - The Colorado School of Mines softball team returned to action after a week off for spring break with a double header against Regis University Tuesday afternoon. Mines came up short in both games losing to the Rangers 11-5 and 5-4.

In the Orediggers first game, the score remained close while Mines only trailed by one going into the bottom of the fifth. A six run rally by the Rangers put them up 9-2 as Mines was unable to come back as the game ended with a final score 11-5.

Melissa Stratton batted a perfect three for three with two singles and a double.

The second game of the day proved to be even closer as the score was tied 4-4 after seven innings, sending the game into extra innings.With a scoreless eighth inning, the Rangers went on to win 5-4 with a score in the bottom of the ninth.

With the two losses Mines falls to 5-13 overall and 1-13 in conference play. The Orediggers will return to action this weekend with home double headers on both Saturday and Sunday against Fort Lewis College. Games will begin at 12:00 pm on Saturday and 11:00 am on Sunday.

CSM SOFTBALL WINS ONE OF FOUR AT CSU-PUEBLO

PUEBLO, Colo. - The Colorado School of Mines softball team was on the road this past weekend with four games against The Colorado State-Pueblo Thunderwolves. Mines finished the weekend with a 1-3 record.

The Orediggers won the second game of the four game series on Saturday 6-4. Freshman pitcher Jennifer Newman (Lakewood, Colo./Green Mountain) came away with the win, pitching seven innings allowing ten hits and four runs. Mines lost the first game 7-5 while they dropped both games on Sunday 11-6 and 4-0.

In CSM's 6-4 win three players hit homeruns. Brianne Brennan (Grand Junction, Colo./Grand Junction Central), Stacie LaRocque (Erie, Colo./Monarch) and Beth Skidmore (Littleton, Colo./Dakota Ridge) hit back to back to back homers in the bottom of the sixth helping their team to a victory. Brinnan also hit a homerun in the game before.

After this weekends games, Mines is now 5-11 overall and 1-11 in conference play. The Orediggers will not return to action until Tuesday, March 28th with a double header against Regis University, at Regis.

CSM Softball Goes 0-4 at Nebraska-Kearney Over the Weekend

KEARNEY, Neb. - The Colorado School of Mines softball team fell to 4-8 overall and 0-8 in the Rocky Mountain Athletic Conference with four loses this past weeked to Nebraska-Kearney.

Mines was unable to come away with a win this past weekend in Kearney, Neb. as they pushed two games to extra innings and had one decided by only one run.

The Orediggers dropped their first game of the weekend on Saturday 12-3 but bounced back, battling with the Lopers in the next three losing all by only one. The second game on Saturday ended in the eighth inning with the Lopers on top 8-7. Sunday was just about the same as Kearney was able to win both games, 8-7 and 4-3.

Brittany McKenzie led Mines in the third game, hitting four for three with three RBI's while Brianne Brinnan, went a perfect 3-3 hitting in the final game ending with two RBI's.

The Orediggers will continue their road games this next weekend with two double headers against CSU-Pueblo on Saturday and Sunday.

CSM Softball Team Drops Four to Mesa State Over the Weekend

GRAND JUNCTION, Colo. - The Colorado School of Mines softball team dropped all four games to the Mesa State Mavericks this past weekend in Grand Junction. With double headers on both Saturday and Sunday, the Orediggers came up short to the Mavericks losing 10-1 and 10-4 on Saturday and 5-1 and 6-4 on Sunday.

Freshman Margie Cone (Larkspur, Colo./Douglas County) finished the weekend with a .500 batting average hitting 5 hits out of her 10 at bats. Stacie LaRocque (Erie, Colo./ Monarch) also swung the bat well, ending with a .333 batting average and four RBI's.

With the four losses, Mines' record falls to 4-4 overall and 0-4 in conference play. The Orediggers will return to action this weekend with double headers on Saturday and Sunday in Kearney, Neb. against The University of Nebraska-Kearney Lopers.

MINES ENDS FOUR GAME SERIES AGAINST
COLORADO COLLEGE 4-0

GOLDEN, Colo. - The Colorado School of Mines softball team finished the second day of play against Colorado College with two more wins, ending the four game series 4-0.

Mines won the first game 13-0 while Rissa Laubhan (Arvada, Colo./ Ralston Valley) led the way hitting 3-4, with two runs and four RBI's. Freshman pitcher Taylor Cahou (Lakewood, Colo./Green Mountain) got her second win of the season allowing only four hits and no runs.

Beth Skidmore led her team to a 10-2 win in the second game with her two hits, one run and three RBI's, while freshman pitcher Katie Kocman allowed only three hits and zero runs in her four innings pitched, giving her, her first win of the season.

Mines returns to action this weekend with home double headers on Saturday and Sunday afternoon against Hastings College.

CSM SOFTBALL WINS FIRST TWO GAMES OF SEASON

GOLDEN, Colo. - The Colorado School of Mines softball team opened up their season this afternoon in a decisive manner. The Orediggers defeated Colorado College in a double header winning the first game 12-2 and the second 10-2.

Stacie LaRocque (Erie, Colo./Monarch) led the way for Mines, ending with three doubles and four RBI's on the day, while teammate Brittany McKenzie (Pueblo, Colo./Pueblo South) added a homerun in the first game

Freshman pitcher Taylor Cahou (Lakewood, Colo./Green Mountain) came away with the win in the first game, while freshman Jennifer Newman (Lakewood, Colo./Green Mountain) got the win in the second game.

Mines begins the season with a 2-0 record and will return to action tomorrow with another double header against Colorado College. They will play on the road tomorrow.
