FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE COLORADO MINES ANNOUNCES ATHLETICS HALL OF FAME CLASS GOLDEN, Colo. - The Colorado School of Mines Athletics Department has announced the Ninth Annual Hall of Fame Induction Class which will be honored at a dinner and ceremony on Friday, Sept. 3 in the Ben Parker Student Center. The group will also be honored at halftime of the Mines football game against Missouri-Rolla on Sept. 4 at Brooks Field. Kickoff for the game is scheduled for 1:00 pm. This years class includes Roxie Bowman (Sullivan), Danny Huber and Duane Maue as individuals, the 1987-88 mens basketball team, the 1969 Football Teams trip to Fort Lewis as a historic event, Coach Bob McCandless and Harry Campbell as an Outstanding Supporter of Mines Athletics. Bowman is one of the greatest volleyball players to ever wear a Mines uniform. After sitting out her freshman year due to an injury, she came back to earn all-conference honors in 1983 and 1985 and was named to the RMAC Eastern Division All-Star Team in 1984. A team captain who twice led the Orediggers in kills, Bowman had a 29 vertical lead despite standing only 5-7. Huber became one of the all-time soccer greats at Mines after playing two years at UC Santa Barbara and transferring to CSM. In two years at Mines, Huber led the Orediggers to a pair of conference championships as he totaled 32 goals and 16 assists and led the NCAA II West Region in scoring and finished ninth in the nation as a senior with 39 points (16 goals, 7 assists). He was a two-time RMAC Player of the Year, a two-time RMAC First Team honoree and a two-time All-Region and All-American selection. Huber was also named to the conference and Far West Region All-Academic Teams in 1995. Maue is a three-time NCAA II All-American at 142 pounds, including a runner-up finish in 1988, a third place showing in 1989 and an eighth place finish in 1987. His All-American distinction in 1987 made him the first Oredigger grappler in 15 years to earn All-American honors. The first CSM wrestler to win more than 100 matches in his career, Maue has seven collegiate tournament titles to his name. He finished his career with an overall record of 114-50-3 and helped Mines place in the top-20 in the nation twice during his brilliant career. The 1987-88 mens basketball team compiled one of the best seasons in school history under legendary Head Coach Jim Darden. The squad posted a 20-11 mark, including 10-2 in conference play en route to the RMAC Championship. Led by Mike Zieglers 22.8 points per game average and Pete Dawsons double-double average of 19.8 points and 11.2 rebounds per game, the team advanced to the NAIA District VII Tournament and went 1-1. The team also won a then school-record 10 straight games. The 1969 Football Teams trip to Fort Lewis and 22-12 victory is being recognized as this years Historic Event. The team had two planes chartered to make the trip to Durango, but only one made it out due to inclement weather. The plane held just two coaches and half of the players, which forced almost every Mines player to play both offense and defense at the game. For many of the players, it was the first and only time they played on the other side of the ball during their careers. Bob McCandless was elected as this years Outstanding Coach after serving as the Head Swimming and Diving Coach from 1965-97 and an assistant football coach from 1968-93. Finally, Harry Campbell, a member of the undefeated 1939 football team, is being honored as an Outstanding Supporter of Mines Athletics after he established an endowment for the football program in 2001.
