FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE Lang and Mitchell sweep RMAC
Women's Soccer Player of the Week awards GOLDEN, Colo. -- Colorado School of Mines' Kelsey Lang and Kayla Mitchell swept the Rocky Mountain Athletic Conference Women's Soccer Player of the Week awards for the week of Oct. 20th to Oct. 26th, as announced today by the RMAC. Lang was tabbed the Defensive Player of the Week for the first time this season and the first time in her career. Mitchell earned Offensive Player of the Week honors for the second time this season and the third time in her career. Lang, a 5'9" sophomore defender from Colorado Springs, Colo. (Air Academy), scored two goals, including the game-winner, in Mines' 5-0 win at home against N.M. Highlands (Oct. 24). On Sunday, Oct. 26th, Lang helped CSM hand Fort Lewis its first lost in conference play in a 1-0 shutout victory at home. It was the ninth shutout of the season for Mines and CSM's eighth shutout victory. This season, Lang has started all 16 matches for CSM and is tied for second on the squad in goals (4) and ranks third in total points (8). Three of Lang's four goals are penalty kicks and she has converted all three of her penalty-kick attempts during the 2008 season. As a freshman, Lang played in 19 matches and recorded two goals and three assists. Mitchell, a 5'3" junior forward from Ontario, Ore. (Ontario High School), recorded two goals against NMHU and scored the game-winner off a direct free kick in Mines' win over Fort Lewis. Mitchell has now scored in 10 consecutive matches and has scored multiple goals in five matches this season. A Preseason All-RMAC selection, Mitchell has started all 16 matches this season and leads CSM in goals (19) and total points (39). The 2008 Women's Soccer Academic Player of the Year and a unanimous First Team Academic All-RMAC selection Mitchell ranks second in the RMAC in goals, points and game-winning goals (5). A First Team All-RMAC and Academic All-RMAC selection as a sophomore in 2007, Mitchell started all 21 matches and led the Orediggers in goals (13), total points (29) and game-winning goals (seven). Her 13 goals tied her for fifth most in the RMAC while her seven game winners ranked her third. Mitchell also added three assists and converted on four of her five penalty kick attempts. As a freshman in 2006, Mitchell garnered Second Team All-RMAC honors while leading the Orediggers in total points (25), goals (11) and assists (tied with three). The Orediggers (10-3-3, 8-1-2 RMAC) will finish regular season RMAC play
on the road this week. CSM will travel to Pueblo, Colo. to take on CSU-Pueblo
on Friday, Oct. 31st at 3:30 pm. On Sunday, Nov. 2nd, Mines will travel
