COLORADO SCHOOL OF MINES VOLLEYBALL TOPS CALVIN, 3-0 GOLDEN, Colo. - The Colorado School of Mines volleyball team earned a 3-0 nonconference victory over Calvin College (Mich.) on Wednesday evening in Volk Gymnasium. Game scores were 30-17, 30-19, 30-23. Leading the way for Mines was freshman middle blocker Nicole Leeper (Brighton, Colo./Brighton) who amassed 10 kills and just three errors in 15 attempts (.467). Junior right side Kelly Desens (Aurora, Colo./Overland) totaled seven kills and seven digs, while junior libero Sarah Alsbrooks (Shawnee, Kan./St. Thomas Aquinas) recorded a game-best 21 digs and sophomore setter Katherine Muterspaugh (Colorado Springs, Colo./Palmer) dished out a game-high 33 assists to go along with 10 digs for a double-double. Calvin (0-1) was paced by Christine Hendricks who tallied nine kills. Katie Zondervan added 22 assists, while Kristin DeGroot registered 20 digs. Mines will return to action this weekend when it travels to Grand Junction, Colo., to take part in the Mesa State Tournament. On Friday, CSM will play Eastern New Mexico (9:00 am) and Arkansas Tech (4:00 pm) and on Saturday, the Orediggers will face 20th-ranked Rockhurst (9:00 am) and Angelo State (2:00 pm). -- OREDIGGERS -- |
