MINES VOLLEYBALL FALLS TO REGIS, 3-0, IN SEASON FINALE

GOLDEN, Colo. - The Colorado School of Mines volleyball team fell to Regis, 3-0, in its season finale on Friday evening in Volk Gymnasium in Rocky Mountain Athletic Conference action. Game scores were 30-18, 30-22, 30-26.
Playing in her final match for the Orediggers, senior outside hitter Laurie Alzheimer (Anchorage, Alaska/Service) tallied a double-double with 14 kills and a game-high 12 digs. Freshman outside hitter Samantha Bauer (Lakewood, Colo./Dubai, UAE) registered a game-best 15 kills and four digs, while junior setter Amber Livingston (Woodland Park, Colo./Woodland Park) amassed 32 assists.
For the Rangers, sophomore outside hitter Holly Yamada (Honolulu, Hawaii/Farrington) recorded a team-high 12 kills and also tied for the team-high with 10 digs. Redshirt freshman Amy Steele (Wichita, Kan./New Mexico) also reached double-digits in kills with 10, while junior setter Amy Willhoit (Colorado Springs, Colo./Palmer) tallied 39 assists and six digs.
Mines concludes in season at 1-27 overall and 1-18 in the RMAC. Regis, which will play at Chadron State tomorrow evening in its regular season finale, improved to 15-12 overall and 10-8 in the RMAC.

MINES VOLLEYBALL DROPS 3-1 MATCH AT CHADRON STATE
CHADRON, Neb. - The Colorado School of Mines volleyball team was dealt a 3-1 setback at Chadron State in Rocky Mountain Athletic Conference Volleyball action on Tuesday evening. Game scores were 30-26, 23-30, 30-27, 30-12.
CSM senior outside hitter Laurie Alzheimer (Anchorage, Alaska/Service) paced her squad with 12 kills, 15 digs and one service ace. Freshman outside hitter Samantha Bauer (Lakewood, Colo./Dubaie UAE) tallied 12 kills, 2.5 blocks and three digs, while junior libero Sonia Hesseltine (Aurora, Colo./Overland) notched a game-best 20 digs. Junior setter Amber Livingston (Woodland Park, Colo./Woodland Park) amassed 34 assists in the losing effort.
For Chadron, Alysia Wardyn tallied a team-high 13 kills to go along with four digs and 3.5 blocks. Tasha Redd posted 11 kills and a team-high 18 digs, while Shelly Kraus handed out 38 assists for the Eagles.
Mines will be back in action when it hosts Regis University at 7:00 pm Friday night in the Volk Gymnasium. It will the 2002 season finale for the Orediggers.

LAKEWOOD, Colo. - The Colorado School of Mines volleyball team was dealt a 3-0 setabck at Colorado Christian on Saturday night. Game scores were 30-20, 30-22, 30-21.
CSM senior outside hitter Laurie Alzheimer (Anchorage, Alaska/Service) tallied 11 kills and five digs in the losing effort. Her 11 kills in the match gave her more than 300 kills in all four seasons at Mines. Freshman outside hitter Samantha Bauer (Lakewood, Colo./Dubai UAE) notched a team-best 12 kills,while junior setter Amber Livingston (Woodland Park, Colo./Woodland Park) amassed 24 assists.
For CCU, Ashley Gerster tallied a game-high 15 kills and 12 digs, while Emily Miller contributed 14 kills, three digs and two service aces. Rhonda Lamson totaled 44 assists.
Mines will be back in action on Tuesday night when it travels to Chadron State for a 5:30 pm match.

DENVER, Colo. - The Colorado School of Mines volleyball team lost a 3-0 match at 10th-ranked Metro State on Friday evening. Game scores were 30-23, 30-13, 30-23.
Leading the way for Mines was senior outside hitter Laurie Alzheimer (Anchorage, Alaska/Service) who notched a team-high 10 kills, five digs and one ace. Freshman outside hitter Samantha Bauer (Lakewood, Colo./Dubai UAE) tallied seven kills and one block, while junior setter Amber Livingston (Woodland Park, Colo./Woodland Park) amassed 23 assists.
Metro, which won its 16th straight match and improved to 16-0 in the RMAC, was led by Nicki Fusco who registered 22 kills and six digs. Beth Vercic also reached double digits in kills with 10, while Devon Herron totaled 45 assists, three kills and nine digs.
Mines will be back in action on Saturday evening when it travels to Colorado Christian for a 7:00 pm match.

GOLDEN, Colo. - The Colorado School of Mines volleyball team dropped a 3-0 decision to Nebraska-Kearney in RMAC volleyball action on Saturday evening in Volk Gymnasium. Game scores of the match were 30-13, 30-12, 30-23.
The Orediggers were paced by senior outside hitter Laurie Alzheimer (Anchorage, Alaska/Service) who led the team with 11 kills and seven digs. Senior middle blocker Lauren Ramsay (Steamboat Springs, Colo./Steamboat Springs) added seven kills and a block, while junior libero Sonia Hesseltine (Aurora, Colo./Overland) chipped in with 10 digs and two kills.
The Lopers, ranked 13th in Division II, registered a hitting percentage of .358 as a team. Erin Arnold and Michelle Wemhoff tallied 11 kills apiece, while Wemhoff also added six service aces. Bethany Spilde amassed 35 assists for UNK.
CSM will be back in action on Friday evening when it travels to Metro State for a match at 7:00 pm.

GOLDEN, Colo. - The Colorado School of Mines volleyball team lost a 3-1 match to Fort Hays State on Friday evening in the Volk Gymnasium. After winning game one, 33-31, Mines dropped the next three games, 30-24, 30-18, 30-24.
Freshman outside hitter Samantha Bauer (Lakewood, Colo./Dubai, UAE) registered a career-high 19 kills in the losing effort and also added two blocks and a dig. Senior outside hitter Laurie Alzheimer (Anchorage, Alaska/Service) tallied 16 kills and 14 digs, while senior middle blocker Lauren Ramsay (Steamboat Springs, Colo./Steamboat Springs) also reach double digits in kills (10) and also produced three blocks. Junior setter Amber Livingston (Woodland Park, Colo./Woodland Park) amassed 45 assists.
For the Tigers (15-8, 9-5 RMAC) Andrea Logan recorded a team-best 17 kills to go along with seven digs and a block. Shannon Madison chipped in with nine kills, three aces, two digs and a block, while Jayme Eichner totaled 43 assists, 16 digs and three service aces.
CSM (1-22, 1-13 RMAC) will be back in action on Saturday night when it hosts 13th-ranked Nebraska-Kearney at 7:00 pm in Volk Gymnasium.

MINES VOLLEYBALL FALLS AT SOUTHERN COLORADO, 3-0
PUEBLO, Colo. - The Colorado School of Mines volleyball team dropped a 3-0 match at Southern Colorado on Sunday afternoon. Game scores were 30-15, 30-22, 30-17.
Senior outside hitter Laurie Alzheimer (Anchorage, Alaska/Service) and freshmen outside hitters Lauren Moody (Shawnee, Okla./Shawnee) and Samantha Bauer (Lakewood, Colo./Dubai, UAE) each led Mines with six kills apiece. Alzheimer also contributed a team-high seven kills and a block, while junior setter Amber Livingston (Woodland Park, Colo./Woodland Park) registered 20 assists.
For Southern Colorado, Meagan Sater tallied a game-best 19 kills to go along with nine digs and a block. Sarah Lusk chipped in with 12 kills, while Rachel Stevens amassed 47 assists in the win.
CSM will be back in action two times this weekend. On Friday, Mines will host Fort Hays State at 7:00 pm in Volk Gymnasium before hosting Nebraska-Kearney at 7:00 pm Saturday evening.

CSM VOLLEYBALL DEFEATS UCCS, 3-2
COLORADO SPRINGS, Colo. - The Colorado School of Mines volleyball earned its first victory of the 2002 season with a 3-2 triumph at UC-Colorado Springs on Saturday night. After losing two of the first three games, the Orediggers responded with victories in the final two games.
Game scores were 20-30, 30-25, 23-30, 30-27, 16-14.
Senior outside hitter Laurie Alzheimer (Anchorange, Alaska/Service) led Mines with 15 kills, 16 digs, one service ace and a block. Freshman middle blocker Nina Vollmer (Denver, Colo./Wheat Ridge) tallied a career-high 11 kills, and three and a half blocks, while junior setter Amber Livingston (Woodland Park, Colo./Woodland Park) amassed 38 assists.
For the Mountain Lions, Desiree Myhre notched a game-best 18 kills, five aces and two and a half blocks. Emily Green (11) and Kristen Denman (10) also reached double digits in kills, while Sandie Olynick registered 44 assists.
CSM will be back in action on Sunday afternoon when it plays at Southern Colorado at 3:00 pm.

Leading the way for Mines (0-20, 0-11) was freshman outside hitter Samantha Bauer (Lakewood, Colo./Dubai, UAE) who tallied a team-high eight kills and three digs. Senior outside hitter Laurie Alzheimer (Anchorage, Alaska/Service) recorded six kills and six digs, while freshman setter Patricia Wong (Albuquerque, N.M./Albuquerque Academy) registered 14 assists.
For Highlands (3-15, 2-10), Kacy Cochran tallied 14 kills and five digs, while Christina Carle totaled 13 kills and two blocks. Setter Peggy Hongthong amassed 40 assists, as Highlands recorded a hitting percentage of .275 for the game.
CSM will be back in action on Saturday evening when they play at CU-Colorado Springs at 7:00 pm. CSM will then play at Southern Colorado at 3:00 pm on Sunday afternoon.

Game scores of the match were 30-12, 30-16, 30-15.
Leading the way for CSM were senior middle blocker Lauren Ramsay (Steamboat Springs, Colo./Steamboat Springs) and freshman outside hitter Samantha Bauer (Lakewood, Colo./Dubai, UAE) who each tallied a team-high five kills. Freshman setter Patricia Wong (Albuquerque, N.M./Albuqurque Academy) nothced 16 assists to go along with a team-best nine digs.
For the Bears, Erin Deffenbaugh tallied 23 kills, seven digs and three aces to lead the way. Danelle Angus added 10 kills, while Linnea Kiilsgaard contributed 38 assists, eight digs and three blocks.

Leading the way for CSM was senior outside hitter Laurie Alzheimer (Anchorage, Alaska/Service) who recorded 15 kills, which tied for the game high, 10 digs and one block. Senior middle blocker Lauren Ramsay (Steamboat Springs, Colo./Steamboat Springs) tallied 10 kills and just one attack error in 16 attempts for a CSM season-high .563 hitting percentage. Ramsay also contributed three blocks, while freshman setter Patricia Wong (Albuquerque, N.M./Albuquerque Academy) amassed 36 assists.
For the Mountaineers (6-10, 6-2 RMAC), Sarah McKinley tallied 15 kills, two aces, seven digs and two blocks. Joni Harmon recorded 10 kills, two aces, and three blocks, while Chelsea Harmon contributed a game-best 41 assists to go along with five digs.

KEARNEY, Neb. - The Colorado School of Mines volleyball team dropped its second straight RMAC match on Saturday afternoon as ninth-ranked Nebraska-Kearney handed the Orediggers a 3-0 setback. Game scores were 30-20, 30-16, 30-15.
In addition, the Orediggers were dealt a 3-0 setback at Fort Hays on Friday evening. Game scores against the Tigers were 30-24, 30-24, 30-25.
Leading the way for CSM (0-10, 0-2) against the Lopers on Saturday afternoon was senior middle blocker Lauren Ramsay (Steamboat Springs, Colo./Steamboat Springs) who tallied a team-high seven kills to go along with three blocks. Senior outside hitter Laurie Alzheimer (Anchorage, Ala./Service) notched six kills, eight digs and one block, while junior setter Amber Livingston (Woodland Park, Colo./Woodland Park) registered 16 assists.
The Lopers (10-1, 2-0) had three players with at least 10 kills and recorded a .381 hitting percentage. Sophomore outside hitter Erin Arnold paced the attack with 12 kills.
Against the Tigers on Friday night, Alzheimer led CSM as she notched a game-high 19 kills and recorded a .457 hitting percentage. She also had nine digs and one block. Freshman outside hitter Samantha Bauer (Lakewood, Colo./Dubai, U.A.E.) recorded 10 kills and one dig while Livingston amassed 35 assists.
CSM will return to action two times next weekend. On Friday, the Orediggers will play their first home match of the season when they entertain Metro State at 7:00 pm. CSM will then host Colorado Christian at 7:00 pm Saturday evening. Both games will be played in Volk Gymnasium.

MINES VOLLEYBALL DROPS THREE AT CENTRAL OKLAHOMA
EDMOND, Okla. - The Colorado School of Mines volleyball team dropped three games at the Central Oklahoma Tournament over the weekend. On Friday evening, CSM was defeated by Dallas Baptist, 3-0. The Ordiggers were then knocked off by Southwest Baptist, 3-2, and Drury, 3-1, on Saturday.
The Orediggers (0-8) were led by senior outside hitter Laurie Alzheimer (Anchorage, Ala./Service) who notched 36 kills, 21 digs and five blocks in the three losses. Freshman setter Patricia Wong (Albuquerque, N.M./Albuquerque Academy) registered 91 assists, including 47 against Drury, while freshman middle blocker Nina Vollmer (Denver, Colo./Wheat Ridge) tallied 14 kills, nine aces, six digs and a team-best 12 blocks in the three matches.
CSM will return to action twice this weekend. On Friday, the Orediggers will face Fort Hays at 7:00 pm to open its RMAC schedule. Colorado School of Mines will then play at Nebraska-Kearney at 7:00 pm Saturday evening.

EDMOND, Okla. - The Colorado School of Mines volleyball team was defeated by Central Oklahoma, 3-0, in the opening game of the Sleep Inn/Broncho Invitational on Friday afternoon. Game scores were, 30-19, 30-26, 30-17.
CSM (0-5) was paced by senior outside hitter Laurie Alzheimer (Anchorage, Ala./Service) who tallied a team-high nine kills to go along with six digs, two blocks and one ace. Freshman outside hitter Lauren Ramsay (Steamboat Springs, Colo./Steamboat Springs) recorded six kills, a team-best five blocks, one dig and one ace, while freshman defensive specialist Sarah Alsbrooks (Shawnee, Kan./St. Thomas Aquinas) led the Orediggers with 11 digs. Junior setter Amber Livingston (Woodland Park, Colo./Woodland Park) registered 16 assists.
Central Oklahoma (3-2) was led by Alma Brahimaj, who notched 16 kills, four digs and two aces. Lexy Fortner registered 11 kills, eight digs and three blocks, while Stacey Meek handed out 30 assists.
The Orediggers return to action on Friday evening when they play Dallas Baptist University in their second game of the Invitational.

MINES VOLLEYBALL OPENS AT LADY BUFF CLASSIC
CANYON, Texas - The Colorado School of Mines volleyball team began the 2002 season by competing at the Lady Buff Classic on the campus of West Texas A&M University over the weekend.
The Orediggers opened up with two matches on Friday, losing to Incarnate Word and top-ranked West Texas A&M by 3-0 counts. On Saturday, CSM was defeated by Trinity (Texas), 3-0, and Eastern New Mexcio, 3-1.
The Orediggers received stellar play from several individuals, including senior outside hitter Laurie Alzheimer (Anchorage, Ala./Service) who totaled 27 kills, two aces and 16 digs in the four matches. Junior right side Sonia Hesseltine (Aurora, Colo./Overland) notched 11 kills, 26 assists, two aces, 17 digs and seven blocks in the four matches, while junior middle blocker Lauren Ramsay (Steamboat Springs, Colo./Steamboat Springs) recorded 20 kills, two aces, four digs and a team-high 10 blocks during the weekend. In the loss to Eastern New Mexico freshman setter Patricia Wong (Albuquerque, N.M./Albuquerque Academy) dished out 32 assists.
The Orediggers will return to action this weekend when they play four matches at the Central Oklahoma Invitational. CSM will begin its play at 11:00 am on Friday against the host school.
