MINES VOLLEYBALL FALLS TO REGIS, 3-0, IN SEASON FINALE
GOLDEN, Colo. - The Colorado School of Mines volleyball team fell to Regis, 3-0, in its season finale on Friday evening in Volk Gymnasium in Rocky Mountain Athletic Conference action. Game scores were 30-18, 30-22, 30-26. Playing in her final match for the Orediggers, senior outside hitter Laurie Alzheimer (Anchorage, Alaska/Service) tallied a double-double with 14 kills and a game-high 12 digs. Freshman outside hitter Samantha Bauer (Lakewood, Colo./Dubai, UAE) registered a game-best 15 kills and four digs, while junior setter Amber Livingston (Woodland Park, Colo./Woodland Park) amassed 32 assists. For the Rangers, sophomore outside hitter Holly Yamada (Honolulu, Hawaii/Farrington) recorded a team-high 12 kills and also tied for the team-high with 10 digs. Redshirt freshman Amy Steele (Wichita, Kan./New Mexico) also reached double-digits in kills with 10, while junior setter Amy Willhoit (Colorado Springs, Colo./Palmer) tallied 39 assists and six digs. Mines concludes in season at 1-27 overall and 1-18 in the RMAC. Game scores were 30-26, 23-30, 30-27, 30-12. CSM senior outside hitter Laurie Alzheimer (Anchorage, Alaska/Service) paced her squad with 12 kills, 15 digs and one service ace. Freshman outside hitter Samantha Bauer (Lakewood, Colo./Dubaie UAE) tallied 12 kills, 2.5 blocks and three digs, while junior libero Sonia Hesseltine (Aurora, Colo./Overland) notched a game-best 20 digs. Junior setter Amber Livingston (Woodland Park, Colo./Woodland Park) amassed 34 assists in the losing effort. For Chadron, Alysia Wardyn tallied a team-high 13 kills to go along with four digs and 3.5 blocks. Game scores of the match were 30-13, 30-12, 30-23. The Orediggers were paced by senior outside hitter Laurie Alzheimer (Anchorage, Alaska/Service) who led the team with 11 kills and seven digs. Senior middle blocker Lauren Ramsay (Steamboat Springs, Colo./Steamboat Springs) added seven kills and a block, while junior libero Sonia Hesseltine (Aurora, Colo./Overland) chipped in with 10 digs and two kills. Game scores were 30-20, 30-16, 30-15. In addition, the Orediggers were dealt a 3-0 setback at Fort Hays on Friday evening. Game scores against the Tigers were 30-24, 30-24, 30-25. Leading the way for CSM (0-10, 0-2) against the Lopers on Saturday afternoon was senior middle blocker Lauren Ramsay (Steamboat Springs, Colo./Steamboat Springs) who tallied a team-high seven kills to go along with three blocks. On Friday evening, CSM was defeated by Dallas Baptist, 3-0. The Ordiggers were then knocked off by Southwest Baptist, 3-2, and Drury, 3-1, on Saturday. The Orediggers (0-8) were led by senior outside hitter Laurie Alzheimer (Anchorage, Ala./Service) who notched 36 kills, 21 digs and five blocks in the three losses. The Orediggers opened up with two matches on Friday, losing to Incarnate Word and top-ranked West Texas A&M by 3-0 counts. On Saturday, CSM was defeated by Trinity (Texas), 3-0, and Eastern New Mexcio, 3-1. The Orediggers received stellar play from several individuals, including senior outside hitter Laurie Alzheimer (Anchorage, Ala./Service) who totaled 27 kills, two aces and 16 digs in the four matches. Junior right side Sonia Hesseltine (Aurora, Colo./Overland) notched 11 kills, 26 assists, two aces, 17 digs and seven blocks in the four matches, while junior middle blocker Lauren Ramsay (Steamboat Springs, Colo./Steamboat Springs) recorded 20 kills, two aces, four digs and a team-high 10 blocks during the weekend. In the loss to Eastern New Mexico freshman setter Patricia Wong (Albuquerque, N.M./Albuquerque Academy) dished out 32 assists. The Orediggers will return to action this weekend when they play four matches at the Central Oklahoma Invitational.
