Weitzel named Third Team Academic All-American by ESPN The Magazine
GOLDEN, Colo.
(June 10, 2009) - Colorado School of Mines’ Cody Weitzel has been selected as a Third Team Academic All-American (College Division; men’s at-large) by ESPN The Magazine, as announced today by CoSIDA (College Sports Information Directors of America). Weitzel, a 141-lb. senior wrestler who hails from Fort Morgan, Colo. (Fort Morgan H.S.), also earned First Team Academic All-District VII (College Division; men’s at-large) recognition from ESPN The Magazine this season. A two-time recipient (2007-08 and 2008-09) of First Team All-Academic honors from the National Wrestling Coaches Association (NWCA), Weitzel helped guide the Orediggers to a second-place showing on the NWCA’s 2008-09 NCAA Division II All-Academic Top 20 Teams list.  A unanimous First Team Academic All-Rocky Mountain Athletic Conference (RMAC) selection this year, Weitzel also received Academic All-RMAC laurels as a sophomore and junior. Weitzel selected as CSM's male RMAC Honor Student-Athlete
GOLDEN, Colo.
(June 4, 2009) -- Cody Weitzel has been selected as CSM's male Rocky Mountain Athletic Conference Honor Student-Athlete for 2008-09, as announced today by the RMAC. Weitzel, a 141-lb. senior wrestler who hails from Fort Morgan, Colo. (Fort Morgan High School), also earned ESPN The Magazine First Team Academic All-District VII (College Division; at-large) accolades this year.  During his final season at Mines in 2008-09, Weitzel compiled a 15-10 overall record with one fall and placed in the top three at two events (second at the Hastings College Open; third at the Northern Colorado Open).  Weitzel, a unanimous First Team Academic All- RMAC selection this year, also earned Academic All-RMAC honors as a sophomore and junior. CSM finishes second on NWCA’s All-Academic Top 20; Weitzel, Costelow and Lewis earn individual honors
GOLDEN, Colo.
(Mar. 16, 2009) - The CSM wrestling program is ranked second on the National Wrestling Coaches Association’s NCAA Division II All-Academic Top 20 Teams list, as announced by the NWCA. The Orediggers posted a 3.424 cumulative team GPA, just 43 thousandths of a point behind Truman State University.  Colorado School of Mines and Truman State are the only two institutions who have won the Academic National Championship as many as five times. Mines also landed three individuals on this year’s NCAA Division II All-Academic Wrestling Teams, including Cody Weitzel, who earned First Team All-Academic honors.  Kellen Costelow and Dylan Lewis both garnered Honorable Mention All-Academic recognition.
